In a 2015 study, a team of researchers presented a compelling case for why urban neighborhoods filled with trees are better for your physical health. The study was conducted in several cities.

The results were powerful because of the size of the study, however, because they are “correlational,” they cannot definitively identify the precise mechanism by which trees seem to improve health.

The study mentioned that street trees seemed to have a more beneficial effect than private or backyard trees. This could be explained by the fact that they are “more accessible to all residents in a given neighborhood. The study also states that ten more trees in every block is about a 4% increase in street density in a dissection area of Toronto and would be well worth the cost. Planting trees can increase the public’s general perception of health.
